Crime Control and Prevention District, San Antonio

On March 10, 2005, the San Antonio City Council passed and approved Ordinance No. 100539, proposing the creation of a Crime Control and Prevention District pursuant to Section 363.051 of the Crime Control and Prevention District Act. Section 363.052(a) of the Act requires the City Council to appoint seven persons that reside in the proposed district to serve as temporary directors of the district. The Temporary board of directors is charged by state law to give proper notice and hold a public hearing to gather input from the public prior to the board's adoption of the two-year crime control plan. Once a two-year crime control plan is adopted, a majority of the temporary board of directors may order an election for the purpose of allowing voters to vote for or against the creation of the Crime Control and Prevention District and the imposition of a sales and use tax to finance the district.
